So, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably ran across a story or six of GLBT youth who have taken their lives because of bullying. It’s a tragedy to say the least and for the record, it always has been. It’s nice to see the media finally catching on and giving some much needed attention to a serious problem.
One of the many positive things to come out of this is the It Gets Better Project. It’s basically a smattering of videos from celebs and others who care about this issue and are offering encouragement and support to those in needs. Some of my favorite videos are attached below.
I want to offer my support by saying, “It does get better!” People will always ridicule what they don’t understand. You have to find the strength to rise above their ignorance with the knowledge that you are loved and that your life has just as much value as theirs. If you cut it short, then you let them win and they don’t deserve that power. Not now. Not ever. If you’re struggling and need someone to talk to, their are numerous resources like the project mentioned above as well as the Trevor Project, a 24-hour, toll-free hotline for gay and questioning youth.
Again, I say this from the bottom of my heart. I love you, you are valued in this world, and it would be far sadder place if you weren’t around!
