Now That’s Protection!

So, this is a pretty clever promotion for condoms. I don’t know if I would be caught dead in public with one of these things, but the next time I’m feeling frisky, I may don one in the privacy of my own home.

Katrina vs. California

So, I never really thought about comparing the goverment’s response to the major disasters of Hurricane Katrina and the California Wildfires. Luckily, Keith Boykin did it for me. He identifies the factors to consider when realizing that the response to these two situations were about as different as night and day; those factors being race, socio-economic status, and government preparedness. I mean massages and Starbucks coffee compared to no running water and electricity? Really? If I was a Hurricane Katrina victim that endured the hell of that was the Superdome, I’d be really pissed off right about now.

If you have the time, read the article and tell me what you think.

Model Falls Through Runway

This is absolutely hilarious! I don’t know what’s funnier, the samurai guy falling on his back or the fact that model actually fell through the tiny hole he made in the runway. Someone get that girl a biscuit!

Bolts of Silk

October 23, 2007 cwriter79 9 comments

So, Bolts of Silk is pretty hit or miss when it comes to good poetry being posted, but I go periodically hoping to find a gem and today I did. I just love the way Jesus is defined here as a being burdened and weighed down by his responsibility.

Originally, I had posted the entire poem on this post to spare my readers the pain of clicking a link. Unfortunately, I just got a patronizing note from the owner of Bolts of Silk explaining the finer points of copyrighting. Newsflash. I’m not two years old, thank you very much and I will be deleting Bolts from my blogroll.

It Hurts So Good.

October 21, 2007 cwriter79 2 comments

So, my friend Tracie and I decided to take a beginning hip/hop dance class at place call Dance 411 today. Because both of us have been athletically inclined in our pasts, (Tracie was a gymnast and a cheerleader and I used to dance semi-professionally) we thought that the beginning class, while not a total piece of cake, would be at least easy enough for us to fake like we knew what we were doing.

Well, how about the class turned out to be a little more advanced than we bargained for. Let me just say, I haven’t tried to dance like that in a long time, and am I ever paying for it! One of the highlights of the routine was this kamikaze knee slide thing on the floor, that you then pulled yourself up from utilizing only a body roll. Yeah! I decided to wear shorts, so there was no padding between my skin and the wood floor. Bad idea. I now have two bruises on each side of my left knee. On top of that, there were so many sudden moves, jerks and “hit” poses in this routine that my entire body aches from the muscle strain. I didn’t even know that my hip socket could hurt, but guess what? It can!

Tracie had me rolling when she joked that maybe we needed to ask for the “elderly” beginner course. Judging by the way we were moving (during an after) it seemed like we were the oldest people in the class. Although, it was tough and I’m now moving around like a turtle on dopamine, I had a really good time and I want to do it again! I’m such a glutton for punishment.
